Thanks to Rona, we've had a lot of time to think about our 'next move' and although we narrowed it down to two choices, choosing between them, to me, felt like Sophie's choice. Do we a) overland to India from Hungary - avoiding aeroplanes, yey, but possibly not being able to get through
borders/kiss on the street, ney. Or b) fly and take a trip to Mexico. Whilst I was really leaning towards option a, I took a sit down on a beach in Montenegro and asked - why? Was I doing it just to prove I could be a 'real' travel blogger. Yes. Did I need to do that? No. Mexico has everything I've ever wanted - sun, sea, good eats, history, people and so we have finally decided to go with option b and are writing this post in preparation :)
Best Travel Destinations in Mexico
With a history stretching back over 10,000 years, vast deserts and tropical rainforests to explore, and sprawling cities teeming with vibrant culture to immerse yourself in, Mexico is an incredible vacation destination. Parts of the country have developed a reputation for being dangerous, but there are plenty of areas capable of playing host to a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable trip. Personally, I think the reputation is undeserving. Further, in this age of technology that we live in, a lot of travel related things are just that much easier. For examples: finding where you are - there's an app for that, finding accommodation - there's an app for that too. Online dictionaries, Instagram to make your friends jelly, uber. etc etc. Why am I mansplaining phones to you? You know how great they are. What you might not know is that Simify is a really great way to get yourself a SIM card in Mexico - this is a high-speed prepaid SIM that will make sure you're connected as soon as you land. So you can get a taxi using an app from the airport and not be ripped off by airport taxis. Take it from me, it's annoying not being connected instantly. But back to Mexico herself, if you still need a little bit of convincing, let us explain why Mexico is well worth considering for your next adventure abroad.
Mexican Food: Traditional and Veganized
Wherever you are in the world, you're bound to be able to get your hands on some Mexican food.
Other than English, Spanish is the most common language spoken in U.S. homes. Around 13% of the population speaks Spanish at home and only Mexico has a larger Spanish-speaking contingent. So, learning the language will not only help you on your vacation, but it could also come in handy when you return to the States! The nation's heritage, which has been influenced by diverse factors including the ancient Mayan and Aztec civilizations as well as Spanish colonialization, is fascinating to explore too.
