Belgrade in autumn is a spectacle of vibrant colours. The city's parks and green spaces burst into a symphony of warm hues, creating picturesque landscapes that invite leisurely strolls. With mild temperatures—warm days and cool evenings—autumn offers the perfect climate for exploring both indoors and outdoors, free from the oppressive summer heat or the biting winter cold. This season also brings a quieter, more authentic experience of the city. As the summer crowds fade, Belgrade slows down, allowing for a deeper connection with its culture and a more intimate exploration of its attractions.

One of the highlights of my autumn visit was Kalemegdan Park, perched high above the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. During my stroll through Skadarlija, I couldn't resist stopping at a cosy kafana for a meal. The city's many cafés offer a warm refuge from the brisk air, and there's something incredibly comforting about sipping a strong cup of Serbian coffee while watching the world go by. My favourite spot was Knez Mihailova Street, a pedestrian avenue lined with cafés, shops, and street performers.
As I sat at a pavement café, wrapped in a cosy scarf, I noticed how the city's rhythm seemed to slow down in autumn. The relaxed pace allowed for people-watching and soaking in the local atmosphere—a quintessential Belgrade experience.

Another highlight was the Museum of Yugoslavia, located outside Belgrade's city centre, where the driver we hired recommended we spend some time. The museum provides a fascinating look at the country's history, especially through the lens of its most famous leader, Josip Broz Tito. The exhibitions are thought-provoking, offering deep insights into the region's complex past.
Taking a River Cruise on the Danube and Sava Rivers
One of the most unique ways to see Belgrade is from the water. A river cruise offers a different perspective on the city’s landmarks, especially in autumn, when the riverside trees are ablaze with colour. I opted for an evening cruise, which was a magical experience. As the boat glided along the water, the setting sun cast a golden hue over the city, and Belgrade’s lights began to twinkle in the twilight—a serene end to the day.

I decided to explore the Savamala district, a hub of creative energy and nightlife. The area is home to a mix of trendy bars, clubs, and art spaces, many housed in old warehouses and industrial buildings.
The highlight of my evening was a visit to a splav—a floating nightclub on the river. These unique venues offer a party experience like no other, with music, dancing, and stunning views of the city skyline. The cool autumn air added to the atmosphere, making it a night to remember.

A short trip across the river from Belgrade's city centre is Zemun, a charming neighbourhood with a distinctly different vibe. In autumn, Zemun's narrow streets and colourful houses are even more picturesque. I spent a day exploring the area, starting with a climb to the top of Gardoš Tower. The tower offers panoramic views of the Danube River and the surrounding countryside—scenery that is truly breathtaking in autumn. Zemun is also known for its riverside promenade, where you can enjoy a leisurely walk along the Danube. The path is lined with cafés and restaurants, making it a great spot to stop for a meal or a drink. I found a cosy little place where I enjoyed freshly caught fish, a local speciality, while watching the boats drift by on the river.
